Annual Hard Hat Awards Recognize Rock Island Achievements

ROCK ISLAND — Renaissance Rock Island recognized 21 businesses, individuals, and organizations during its 26th Annual Hard Hat celebration on Wednesday night (Dec. 3) for their commitment to Rock Island.

Hard Hat is designed to recognize investment in the community and to thank those who have helped strengthen Rock Island. The event was held at the Metro Operations and Maintenance Center, 4501 4th Ave., Rock Island.


An appreciation award went to the Rock Island Fire Department in recognition of firefighters’ significant efforts during the downtown fire on Sept. 27, 2014.

Collette Hinrichsen Award, for Outstanding Philanthropy, was awarded to the Hass Family.

Renaissance Rock Island Vision Award, for exemplary vision, unwavering commitment, and constant leadership, was awarded to: Jeff VenHuizen, City of Rock Island Chief of Police.

CC Wilson Trophy, for the Most Dedicated, was awarded to Bill Renk.

Golden Brooms, for outstanding maintenance, were awarded to: Blue Cat Brew Pub, Kavanaugh’s Hilltop Tap, and Navarro Canoe Co.

Golden Hammers, for outstanding business investments, were awarded to: Dollar General, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, Jimmy John’s, Milan Surplus, and Quad City Botanical Center.

Golden Paintbrushes, for outstanding painting improvements, were awarded to: Panther Uniforms, Inc.; Pro-Clean Car Wash; Quad City Arts Metro Arts Program; and Steve’s Old Time Tap.

Mayor & City Council Trophy is awarded for the most strategic new investment. Winner: Missman, Inc. Finalists: Friendship Manor – Friendship Place; MetroLINK; Rock Island Housing Authority – Lynden Lane; and St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
