Rock Island Arts & Entertainment District

The District is a downtown neighborhood located along the banks of the Mississippi River in Rock Island, Illinois. Beautiful historic buildings, modern residential living, eclectic retail shopping, outstanding art galleries, vibrant nightlife, innovative dining options, and a jam-packed festival calendar have made The District synonymous with fun.

Although The District has become a geographical location in most people's minds, it truly is a member-based organization.

The District is a non-profit merchants' association dedicated to the revitalization of Downtown Rock Island. In 1992, businesses banded together to revitalize Downtown Rock Island - to make it the arts & entertainment destination of the region. Vacant store fronts have been filled, long dormant upper floors have been transformed into loft apartments, and more than 50 new businesses have opened.

The District has propelled Downtown Rock Island from worst to first. Area residents say we have the most lively downtown in the Quad City area. In 1990, Rock Island was perceived as having the worst downtown in the Quad Cities and by 2000 it was perceived as having the most active according to surveys conducted.

The District organization has become a presenter of high quality special events.  Its mission is to establish and manage downtown Rock Island as a creative and innovative experience.
